PREPARATION TIPS FOR SPRING

Spring is a great time to look for a job because many companies are hiring. Here’s how you can get ahead of the competition:

Update Your Resume & Cover Letter

  • Your resume and cover letter are your first chance to impress an employer, so make them clear and relevant.

  • Update your resume with your most recent experience and focus on your accomplishments, not just your job duties.

  • Keep it short, one page is best, but two pages are okay if you have more experience.

  • Your cover letter should be personalised for each job, explaining why you're interested and how you can help the company.

Improve Your Online Presence

  • Many employers look at LinkedIn and social media before hiring, so make sure your profiles look professional.

  • Update your LinkedIn with a clear photo, a short summary about your skills, and your latest experience.

  • Turn on the “Open to Work” feature if you’re job hunting. Engage with posts and discussions in your field to get noticed by recruiters.

  • Check your social media accounts and remove anything unprofessional. If needed, adjust your privacy settings so only the right people see your posts. A clean and active online presence can help you make a great impression and improve your chances of getting hired.

Be Proactive and Follow Up

  • Don’t just apply and wait, take action to stay ahead of the competition. After submitting your application, follow up with an email to show your interest. A short, polite message to the recruiter or hiring manager can help keep your name in the loop. If you have an interview, send a thank-you email afterward, highlighting your excitement for the role.

  • Also, keep searching and applying while waiting for responses. Spring hiring moves fast, and new job postings appear daily. Stay consistent, follow up, and take the initiative to connect with employers, you never know which opportunity will lead to success!
